No Spend Month Challenge

Well I have reached the point of a self imposed no spend month. My goal is not to buy any books, DVDs, music, Coffee (Starbucks or other houses), or QT (sunflower seeds, soda, gum, candy) for a month. The book buying and music/DVD obsession has got to stop. I have WAY too many books and I am not reading them nearly fast enough.

To curb this my goal is to read the 300+ books on my TBR pile instead. I know that this will be hard for me so I have set up a reward system. If I read 10 books from TBR or Ebook hell I will reward myself with a coffee or music (1 song) and this will continue. Cause let's be honest a girl needs rewards yes?!

As far as the month is concerned I am really going to try to curb my spending. I have a lot of things coming up in March, May, August and well a vacation at some point to a beach and I want to have enough money to go and enjoy myself. So self discipline has got to kick in at some point. Also I am really, really, really trying to attempt to stop my soda addiction which will not only help me save money but also help in the health area.

Have you ever done a self imposed no spending spree or a kick my unhealthy addiction attempt (i.e. books, music, dvds, Starbucks, chiptole, and other non essential items)? If so what helped you? What worked or what didn't? All suggestions welcomed and if anyone wants to join in I would be more then willing to have some company ;)

RULES: 
1. No spending on anything extra for 30 days (books, music, dvds, Starbucks, chiptole, and other non essential items)
2. After 30 days rewards kick in...
10 books from TBR or EBook TBR = a small coffee or 1 song from Itunes/Amazon
rinse recycle repeat
3. You don't have to cut programs like: Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime (however if not using them enough to make the cost worth it cut, cut and cut) that was aimed more for me then you...
4. Update me weekly (or in my case update you weekly) to keep accountable
5. If you run across anything cool and interesting that is free share it with the world
6. At the end of the month let us know how much you saved by cutting out the little things!

So as of Saturday May 10th. This girl right here, graduated with a Masters in Counseling. It took 3 years and 1 trip to India, but alas I did it. I can now say I am a counselor...

1. I lived in India for 6 months! Last year and I am still really missing it. Especially my friends and family there.

2. I have 1 dog and 4 cats... yes I seriously do

 

 

3. I absolutely love history so 1/3 of my books are history related or involved...

4. I fancy myself a writer of novels which I have yet to publish or have others read and yet I still like to tinker with them. 

  but mainly I think I just enjoy making the maps...

5. my favorite color is Green although judging by my closet it is black. That being said my closet is UBER organized unlike the rest of my life. I love to sit and organize and organize and organize. But I hate to clean... 

6. I graduate in May with a Master's Degree in Counseling. 

7.  I love to go to conventions and this year I will be going to St. Louis MO for Wizard World and Chicago for the last Stargate Convention.... I have gone to the last 4 Stargate conventions in 3 years.

8. I heart Firefly!!! So going to St. Louis for River, Wash and Capt LOL 

9. I absolutely love to read and never feel that I have enough time to do it all. I have around 400 books on my Tragically forgotten Bookcase

10. I tend to go by Sarai but my name is actually Sara

11. I speak no other languages but dream of learning at least 3 before I die. And yes I do have a bucket list!

1. Why do you blog?
I blog because I found that no one in my friend group really cares about the things that I tend to nerd out about like comics, movies, TV. By blogging I am allowed to be me at an UBER hype level without annoying those I care and love!

2. If you could meet with one historical figure, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Queen Elizabeth. I am very fascinated with the way her mind worked and how she secured her position without a king in a time that it was unheard of. 

3. Do you have a favorite book?
NO! I have in fact several LOL I also have favorite series that I tend to collect and re-read as often as I can. Anne Bishop's Black Jewels, Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series, and numerous others. 

4. What is the last movie you saw in the theater?  Was it good?
I saw either Ender's Game or Thor 2 whichever came out last is the last one I saw in the theater. I thought both were very good the only thing I have never read the Ender books so I can't tell you if they truly were good or not. 

5. What is your favorite food?
MEXICAN the whole time I was over seas I kept dreaming of Chips, salsa, tacos OMG

6. If you could describe yourself in just one word, what would it be?
Nerdy

Oh gosh not that long and yet it seems like forever I have 3 and I call them my DNA (Denise, Natty, Amber) D -8 years, N - 7 yrs, A- 3 yrs.

Valentine's Book Blogging Mini Challenge #4

Day 4 – Love-triangles. The Ones that worked for you, The ones that didn’t.

VERY VERY RARELY does any love triangle work for me. I mean very very rarely. One I think they are over used. Two the guy that I think should be the one the girl picks never is. Three due to my genre of choice if there is a love triangle someone is going to die b/c I read fantasy/sci-fiction. 

Now the one that did work for me and I enjoyed and thought was believable was...

Cynthia Hand's Unearthly trilogy - she did it well and I enjoyed it even though I didn't like who she picked in the end to wrap it up it still made sense. 

the only other one that made sense to me was...

The Hunger Games trilogy I know why Katniss struggled with this choice both were good for her, both matched her personality and if the hunger games had never happened the ending would've been different (course there wouldn't have been a book)

I think Katniss would've picked Gayle had the games not happened but b/c of the games picked Peeta and it was a good pick for her.

The last one that wasn't really a triangle to most but I think should've been was

Harry Potter between HP, Hermione and Ron I know that wasn't how it worked out and no I'm not upset that Hermione and Ron ended up together even though JK is saying that's not how she would do it now. But honestly I think there was a little bit of sparks there between HP and Hermione... just sayin

Go Goa Gone

So I have to admit it took awhile to watch this and I have NO freaking idea why... IT IS FREAKING FUNNY AS HELL. OMG Zombies in India with the Russian mob who turns out to maybe not be Russian and wow you just have a set up for a hell of a good time.

Now unless you understand Hindi you will need subtitles and sometimes it gets hard to read as fast as they talk, but you get the idea. There are some seriously funny moments especially when foreigners are blamed for HIV and now Zombies due to globalization LOL I died on that line.

Basically there are 3 friends going to a rave in Goa on an island and when they get there a new drug is introduced. The next morning they learn that the drug did something to everyone but them, the Russian/Dezi guy and the sexy girl. So it is them trying to survive in this situation and figure out what do we know and what have we learned through the whole video. Freaking funny and well they have some serious moments but wow can I just say funny movie.

I highly recommend this movie I think all should watch it!

Confessions of a Sims killer

So admit it  how many of you play this  fantastic game? Come on... I know I can't be the only one in the world that does.

*crickets?!*

okay then let's move on. I don't even want to tell you how many hours of my life has been wasted on this game... add to it the jealous factor I sometimes have with my sims.

First off my Sims always dress better than me... not sure why that is, but I'll be woman enough to admit I'm jealous.

Next my Sims always workout to the point I have to stop them from it. Yes, yes I realize that I could always make them couch potatoes, but even my CPs like to jog WTH?

They always live more exciting lives then I do... i.e. skinny dipping in the night clubs, who-hooing in elevators, getting invited to the VIP section, bribing people, running into vampires, werewolves and let us not forget aliens...

I know this is starting to make me sound bad person here, but I can't figure out if its just me or if everyone at some point feels this way. My sims are smarter than me, work out more than I do, dress better and happen to have a God (AKA me) that knows the cheat codes to help them have more money then they know what to do with. So do you blame me for being jealous.

This sadly leads inevitably to their death which then leads me to wonder am I being a little over dramatic? Too quick to kill, to harsh on the little Sim, to evil of a master (cause let's face it I control every inch of their lives...)

Then I remember its all a game not a psychological evaluation and my world goes back to normal. Plus I happen to have created a sim that is the grimm reaper... sort of so who can blame a girl?!
