I am a nerd ~ #2

So one of my favorite all time guilty things in life is the show/comic/graphic called

THE GUILD

For example I read and reviewed numerous comics from this web show...

And the 3 volume comic set that the show was based on or vise versa

So if I had all that I figured I must have the box set...

Yep all 6 disc plus extra crap!!!

Then I found out about this!

THE FREAKING OFFICIAL COMPANION GUIDE OMG I flipped and of course I bought it. (Review to follow) So stinking excited can't wait until I graduate so I can dedicate my week of graduation to this and job searching!!!

Tink The Guild review

So this one paints Tink in a very negative way. I mean we all know she is the mean one, she uses people to her gain and she is just don't give a crap kind of person. This comic however, makes her look really bad! She is just evil in it. First off she pours coffee on the guy at the coffee shop b/c he knew her order (YOU GO IN EVERYDAY)

Nerd Moment: My Starbucks does the same thing especially the one right by the campus cause I'm there like everyday and order the same damn thing every time. I usually have to call to warn them that I'm changing my order otherwise its waiting for me by the time I pull in. Sad but still wouldn't change it. Nerd moment over.

Anyway on top of that she lies to every member of the guild telling them some horrible lie about her past to make them feel sorry for her and yet gets mad b/c they actually care. UGH I mean I get that you don't like to be around people or you were hurt so you dont' want to let people get to know you but come on. Sneaking into your dorm room thru the fire escape so that you can avoid the crowd at the door seriously... I don't think Codex should be the one in therapy.

Any who it all ends with Tink telling everyone to put out their info and no one once to so they end it with not telling each other stuff, which if you are a fan of the show know that won't last long! All in all not one that you have to read to truly experience the guild in fact it isn't one I would recommend that you read. You don't learn anything new you just learn how mean Tink actually is.

Vork The Guild review

So this one is about Vork AKA Herman and how he becomes who he is in the series. This actually focuses on Vork and his grandpa's relationship. I didn't realize how bad a person Vork's grandpa is and how uncomfortable I would be if I were Vork. Then again I wouldn't sleep in the same bed with my grandfather if I was his age so maybe that was the first mistake. It does help to explain why Vork is so controlling in the game and life. I mean he can't control his grandfather so he makes up for it in the game

NERD MOMENT: Yes I totally went counselor on a comic book I do the same damn thing with TV shows and movies so you know sue me... whatever... nerd moment over

Add to it that I get when you reach a certain age (94 in this instance) that you just want to live but seriously get over it grandpa. So far funny part is Vork making his own Guild that look like the characters dressed as Vork LOL very cute. Oh my gosh grandpa doesn't like Vork cutting out his fun so he checks himself into a nursing home seriously might be the best thing for Vork. Except that grandpa comes back under a compromise which leds Vork to learn how to compromise with the guild. Kind of a cute if not dirty read LOL

Favorite line: Ears turn off when you nag (AHAHAHA so true)

Fawkes The Guild Review

Okay I actually bought this b/c I heart Wil Wheaton I just do and I have no idea why b/c he is a HUGE jerk in this series but eh I love him what can I say. SO I wanted to know what they would write about his character and then I remembered that his character Fawkes doesn't show up until the Axis of Evil in season 4 I want to say? Maybe 3 and it wrapped up in season 4. Anyway this comic takes place after season 4 before we go to the con in season 5 (sheesh I really need to review this show for less confusion purposes)

I have to admit I wasn't a fan of Codex and Fawkes but the painting was AWESOME and well they show it again in this one. Basically this is about how Fawkes deals with his breakup from Codex and wow can I just say wow. I never looked at Fawkes that way before so I was a little shocked that this is what happened in the in between series. (You know since the show is about Cyd and Codex not really about Fawkes) It was cool to see the this is what was happening to this character during this time. Before we have only seen the main characters and their back stories. But this time we actually got to see that Fawkes is an actual philosophy professor and well not a good one. His students hate him and well come on he actually wears a kilt and maybe he isn't a professor just a doctoral student forced to teach.

NERD MOMENTWil Wheaton actually helped Felicia Day write this one... which I don't know is kind of cool.

So all in all I actually thought this one has been the most usefully and entertaining on the characters. But, you can't not read this one if you haven't seen the actual Guild series b/c well it just doesn't or wouldn't make sense if you don't understand how Codex and Fawkes hook up.

Zaboo the Guild Review

Zaboo the Indian loving, game playing, trying to prove he's a man to Codex, and mama's boy comic review.
This one didn't really show anything new about Zaboo that wasn't answered in Season 1 of The Guild. The really cool thing about this one is the simple fact of Zaboo's escape. I loved how it was done in a video game type manner. LOL and sadly I envisioned that this is how it went down in Zaboo's mind.

Otherwise I am not sure why this comic was done. sure it was a cute quick read but, personally it didn't provide anything new nor did it really help me with my understanding of the series.

Would I suggest it? Sure if you haven't seen the series then I HIGHLY suggest it as a way to introduce the characters. If you are HUGE fan of Zaboo then it would be an interesting way of knowing more. But, if Zaboo is just a character you sort of kind of like or you have been with the series since the beginning you could miss this one and be fine. That being said if you are a Guild nerd like me just owning it makes you feel complete ;-)

Clara review from the Guild

This is one of my favorite Guild characters so I must share with you my thoughts on this one.

NERD MOMENT: I LOVE HER. No idea why but I so heart Clara maybe b/c she is who she is and my gosh is she ever dumb but, then out of nowhere has a fantastic idea. LOL who knows why I just do. Nerd moment over.

Okay again you don't really need this one unless you just want to learn more about Clara. Basically we see how she met her hubby whom I feel horrible for during this WHOLE series. Anyway we learn what we've always known that Clara loves her games, she lives in her own world, she loves her husband but not in the way he would like. She is a horrible house keeper and or babysitter to her own kids and yet she is pretty much carefree and happy.

All in all it is the same character I have grown to love and well wish I had her husband LOL. The only cool info was how freaking rocker her husband was before they started popping out children together he appears to be pretty bad ass...

Bladezz review from the Guild

Okay so this will be a very short review b/c while I thought it was nice to catch up with this character and learn more about him... it just wasn't all that I thought it would be. But, that being said this character is seriously like a high school student so there wasn't going to be much history there. It did however, show a better picture of his SUPER smart sister Dina who cracks me up not only on the show but also in the comic. My gosh that kid is smart and My gosh Bladezz is not LOL. The only real thing this comic did was answer how he became a model. I don't know if you all recall that Bladezz AKA Simon (again something I didn't know). I do like how Simon AKA Bladezz came up with his model name "Finn Smulders".

Again it is a quick easy read that shows you how Bladezz connects to the Guild and why he is a gamer like he is. Kind of nice getting the background but not needed to understand what is happening in his life especially if you watch the show at all.

The Guild #3 Review

Okay we left off in the last comic with a SHOCKER that I never saw coming and yet it didn't surprise me about JERK... I won't recap but, it looks like I need to. So turns out that Cyd has dealt with this surprise before from her father who turned out to be gay... hence why he pays for therapy.

Now here's not a shocker but Cyd wants to know where their signs? Of course she goes forth and shows us signs of her dad possibly being gay like watching modern dance and liking wall paper before it was cool *blink* not sure how that's a sign but according to Cyd it was. But, did Cyd confront JERK nope she fled (like I would so I'm not sure why there was so much judgement in that one sentence but, eh there ya go). Cyd continues to beat herself up trying to figure out was this a sign, was that a sign, etc...

Favorite quote: "I'm not gay, I'm just omnivorous. That's a dinosaur thing, not a Man thing!"

They continue to fight cause all JERK cares about is his music that Cyd is writing. Cyd is so upset she shutdown the computer (WHAT?!?!?!). Again the therapist is wanting Cyd to connect to "real" people instead of online people. So Cyd goes and talks to the old lady that plays violin by her in the symphony except well she sort of dies on Cyd so thought "so much for that" So Cyd does the one thing I am going to put on the Bucket list a video game bender... and she invites all of them to come play.

Clara, Zaboo, Vork, Bladezz, and friend who doesn't last. And she plays ALL night to which she cancels on a paying gig to continue playing into the next day using the old ladies death as an excuse. When they go to accept a quest Vork tells them no b/c it will be a quest for evil and He doesn't do that! By Golly he's a knight of Good! But, do they listen NO! They want the plated boar LOL

NERD MOMENT: I have totally done that but never for a plated boar LOL I did do something in a game that I normally wouldn't for some clothes or once for a kick ass sword but, yeah not a boar but by God give me a chance and I will they look SUPER cool! Nerd moment over

In order to get the boar they have to kill kittens (SERIOUSLY ok I draw a line at somethings and killing a kitten is the line... this from the girl that has 5 cats and a dog. I'm that girl) Needless to say in order to get a boar they had to kill a woman who rescues orphans and Codex just can't. She gets off the game and collapses into a nap. So she goes to JERK and gives him the music to which JERK makes her feel "special" again and she's in love.

Damn the stupid JERK I really don't like him. Although I love the quote "Why can't I hate him? Stupid hormones!" Been there done that Cyd and I totally feel ya! So Cyd goes back home and becomes Codex and tries to catch up with Vork. Vork refuses to hang with Codex and now we FINALLY officially meet Tink who reminds Codex they can't participate unless they have a team of 6 and we find out that Tink was a member of a Guild that kicked her out for bad attitude (Really? No? I can't believe that about Tink? *insert sarcasm* in case you didn't catch it) Tink turns around and charges Codex to play in the tournament. So they gather together and Bladezz pisses off his friend which is why we no longer know of him and b/c of that they do not have enough to make a team to compete. Ooh and ooh I can't believe I left this but Clara goes into labor during this time too and Tink refuses to give a refund!

Because she couldn't get anyone to play on line she headed to the club to hear JERK'S band. Turns out that JERK didn't include her on the list so Cyd can't even get in. FREAKING JERK. And as if that wasn't bad enough JERK is talking to another girl (girl mind you not even a guy) who happens to be a cute blonde. CURSE YOU JERK!

NERD MOMENT: I feel as if Cyd is one of my dear friends and so for some reason anyone who hurts her pisses me off. Is it weird that I consider a "fictional" character a friend or not even a friend per say but, a person I can totally relate to even though I know no one like her including myself?!?! Nerd moment over

Turns out JERK also dumped his man Gunther who is heart broken and runs away crying (full circle anyone? That's why you don't cheat or be the person who helps another cheat it comes back to bite you in the ass just saying or as I like to say a little bit of Sarai advice). Apparently the record exes liked the music and of course JERK doesn't give Cyd any credit at all. So Cyd gets pissed off and lights the music on fire. YAY except this can't end well but, YAY for Cyd growing a pair. The problem is the whole FREAKING room catches on fire but, we will come back to that.

She goes home and gets back online. Codex goes with Tink, and Zaboo to recruit the members again. Bladezz is next to join then after some begging Vork is on board but, to compete they need 1 more member and LOW and BEHOLD Clara is back b/c it's a BOY and the hospital has wi/fi. So they enter the tournament and well they die but, they discover they had A LOT of fun fighting together and they form their own Guild called.... yep if you've watched the show you know what's coming... "The Knights of Good" and of course Vork starts off with rules LOL.

This leads us to Cyd getting a knock on her door with a cop and yes it has to do with the fire. She had to pay a fine, gets fired, and well finds out that JERK's new band isn't doing good. But, Cyd doesn't go into depression in fact she is happy b/c she has her online peps. And as this one ends we see her saying "besides it's not like I'll ever have to meet these people."

Aww what a satisfying end... or is it... will there be more? Gawd I hope so I love this show I love this comic and my goodness I will be bringing you my reviews of the individual characters soon! I swear. Oh Oh and I might review the show as well... hummm maybe I should do that as well.

Codex

And b/c I promised you I would I googled Codex only to find out that it means NOTHING... there really isn't a comic series out there named that or for that matter it has nothing to do with anything comic related except for a comic books shop somewhere. Now I did find this site: comic vine which did amuse me with this information

Codex is the online role playing identity created by emotionally-troubled violinist Cyd Sherman. She is a human, neutral good cleric, and wields a powerful magic staff that emits blasts of energy.

Cleric In Action!
Cleric In Action!
Codex is a character in an unnamed MMORPG. Being a noob to the game she wandered around making several friends with experience. Having a lust for better items, she committed acts of evil such as killing kittens, but with the help of her friends and her own conscience, she was able to return from the darkside. Codex rallied her friends in the game and became a founding member of the Knights Of Good. With this guild aliened to good, she continued on into tournaments within the game to acquire better gear for her character, and escape from the problems of Cyd Sherman.

The Guild #2 Review

Alright we left off with Cyd being used by JERK for new ideas and Vork being pissed that Codex didn't thank him properly. We start off learning that JERK has made out with EVERYONE in the whole freaking symphony and made out with Cyd to pick her brain for a new direction with his band. Which after sex led Cyd to write out the new music and suggest they go with a new band name. And yet takes credit for the ideas and won't let Cyd play in the band. Cyd is very upset but, instead of going and telling JERK she instead goes to the game.

There she meets Clara LOL I love that woman who happens in this scene to be pregos for the 3rd time in 3 years. Clara tells Codex that you should trade in the stuff she was picking for rewards like new handbags. Anyway they head up a mountain to pick something and run into Zaboo who is defending the clover and thinks its a 13% probability of Codex and Clara being real girls. When he discovers that they are he calls a truce. But, Zaboo gets called away and tells Codex to add him to the friends list so they can play together.

Then we cut to Cyd at the therapist office and needless to say the therapist isn't happy with Cyd making online friends (which as a therapist in training I'm actually not agreeing with this so it sort of kind of pissed me off. Until I realized that I have a lot of online friends and well the therapist can stuff it moving on)

NERD MOMENT: I love that in this comic series that Cyd is walking around and running into the very people she is gaming with online without even knowing it. Like last issue Tink (whom we haven't met yet) was in the video/game store and Bladezz is in this one spray painting a sign. Anywho I just thought that was a cool side note.

So Cyd goes to talk to JERK and finds out that Goonther the guy who yelled at her in the last issue for putting up a sign for JERK's band and wouldn't take her to catch a plane is now in JERK's band. B/c they needed another classical player (even though Cyd is a violinist). Cyd is hurt and JERK excuses it in a smooth talking way. He promises to come over but, doesn't so Cyd goes into the game.

NERD MOMENT: I totally nerd out when they go into game mode b/c you don't get to see it when it is live so it's cool to see the actual game they are playing. Nerd moment over.

When she logs in she runs into Zaboo who has been waiting for her. Bladezz is there and Codex learns he's in middle school (YIKES I didn't even know that I thought it was high school) anyway Vork finds her and request she goes on a quest with him since she owes him from the last battle.

NERD MOMENT: there are freaking ZOMBIES in this game that Codex and cure OMG I want this game I seriously do! Nerd moment over.

So they go and fight and free the princess and yay and then get rewarded with the funniest line EVER the princess crowns Codex and says "live long and prosper" Zaboo looks at her and says "WRONG everything dude" OMG so freaking funny and if you have heard Zaboo's voice it's even funnier imaging him saying it.

So after the funny line they head to the tavern and grab a beer or whatever they drink in that world. And they see a guild partying it up with none other than Tink sitting at a table pissy. Before I can make heads or tails of it Clara walks up and starts talking to the table. Off they go on a quest and the next thing we see is Cyd waking up at 10:30a late for her paying gig. When they get there they are told to go through the back but Cyd refuses and marches in the front. She is feeling empowered and goes home to write the music. Eventually she ends up at JERK's place and walks in on him...

SPOILER SO DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT IT TO BE RUINED FOR YOU...

kissing Goonther OMFG!!!! Must get to #3 must get to #3!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Guild Comics #1 review

So I was feeling blue one day and decided I needed a pick me up so off to Dark Horse Comics I went when I was there I was in awe... OMG there were so many things I wanted needed and 30 bucks later I realized it was a TRAP...

Okay not really but I decided since I heart the Guild series so much with Felicia Day that I had to check out the comics and I am totally glad I did.

The Guild #1 starts off with Cyd and helps us to understand how she got into gaming...while I was reading this I couldn't help but image that it was Felicia Day talking to the web cam just like on the show. We learned that Cyd was a violinist who was in one of the last chairs, dated a guy named Trevor, and read a book or comic series named Codex (which I will totally google later cause that's how I roll). Turns out that Trevor is a total douche (my words no one else has said that, that I am aware of and well hell I don't care he's a douche) who expects Cyd to take tickets, hang posters, write his music and then takes credit for it. Cyd's therapist wants her to get out and talk to real people but then prescribes her a pill to take.

During the therapy session Cyd says, "I could go on vacation. But I'm poor, and paranoid about swimsuits." OMG I seriously spewed my water everywhere cause sadly that's me in a nutshell.

Which she refuses due to the side effects that might or might not happen... Instead she heads into a DVD rental or game store to hang a poster and ends up leaving with a MMORPG game which looks like it's called Escape into fantasy but, I might be reading too much into it.

That night Trevor's gig happens no one likes it Trevor blames Cyd (see total jerk) and Cyd goes home to throw away the celebration cupcakes and plays das game! And she ask a question that I can relate too... "When you're a kid you're allowed to play around being different people. Find yourself. But when do you get to reinvent yourself as an adult?"

So we get to Cyd pick her famous character Codex which is based on that book/comic series that she was reading at the beginning that I will (scouts honor) look up on google at some point for us all. She goes out to lunch the next day with Trever the jerk and from now on will be called JERK so be forewarned. She tries to tell JERK about the game but he doesn't care cause it's not about him. He claims Codex is MAJORLY jealous or what not stupid crap.  So Cyd does a Cyd move and goes home to call and leave messages on why JERK was wrong. But, then she finally steps into the game to play.

NERD MOMENT: this totally reminds me of the first time that I logged in and played Dragon Age. OMG I seriously didn't have a clue what I was doing and man did I have fun. Major difference was the whole hooking up with people online cause I played RPG and didn't go out on adventures with strangers I stuck with you know learning the game by myself... okay nerd moment over

While in the game she runs into 2 players who explain that killing animals is a quest one is very important Bladezz b/c you know he's in the series the other one isn't so I choose to ignore him. So Bladezz invites Codex to go with them on an adventure to kill everything (but the children thank goodness LOL gawd I love Cyd). Codex learns that with all the killing comes rewards like cool shoes LOL "and for killing stuff you get rewards, like clothing! Whose idea was that?! Genius!" LOL
So they work their way up until classes change and then they abandon Codex who decides to try to slay the dragon on her own. And well she dies repeatedly until she gets help from... wait for it another major player... Vork! OMG I heart Vork. After the battle Cyd here's a knock its JERK and just wants Cyd to talk about the ideas.

Vork gets mad b/c Codex just ignores him and Cyd and JERK go forth to do something that I have no idea is b/c it's time for vol. 2. Rest easy b/c yes I did buy vol. 2 and will review for you.

On a side note the pictures are pretty (yes I described them as pretty). They match the characters that I am use to seeing on The Guild online and it is written in their voices and tones so that was a plus. And I love seeing how The Guild is formed cause when we started the web series they were already a team so this was cool getting to know Cyd before The Guild.

Any who have you read the comics? Do you like them? Any suggestions for series like this?

I Heart The Guild

Okay I have to take a second to let you know how much I am IN LOVE with Felicia Day and her show/graphic novels/comic books The Guild - I LOVE THEM!!! Seriously I think I have made everyone of my friends sit through all 4 now 5 seasons of the Guild at least once and that's not including how many times I have watched them.
*le sigh* that is all I just wanted to share with you my love of everything Felicia Day and well The Guild.

I promise reviews of not only show but books to come of this fantastic series!!!!
