Go Goa Gone

So I have to admit it took awhile to watch this and I have NO freaking idea why... IT IS FREAKING FUNNY AS HELL. OMG Zombies in India with the Russian mob who turns out to maybe not be Russian and wow you just have a set up for a hell of a good time.

Now unless you understand Hindi you will need subtitles and sometimes it gets hard to read as fast as they talk, but you get the idea. There are some seriously funny moments especially when foreigners are blamed for HIV and now Zombies due to globalization LOL I died on that line.

Basically there are 3 friends going to a rave in Goa on an island and when they get there a new drug is introduced. The next morning they learn that the drug did something to everyone but them, the Russian/Dezi guy and the sexy girl. So it is them trying to survive in this situation and figure out what do we know and what have we learned through the whole video. Freaking funny and well they have some serious moments but wow can I just say funny movie.

I highly recommend this movie I think all should watch it!

My Thoughts:
For starters that summary really blows cause it doesn't even begin to describe this book. McKay is not only rescuing Teyla, Ronan, Shep but also his arse who doesn't like the cold any more than the rest of them. Basically McKay convinces the Elizabeth with the help of Shepperd to go through the gate to the furthest they have ever gone. It is so far the ancients were attempting to build a special ship for it. Now does the team use the special ship or even try to build the ship? NO of course not why would they ;)

Needless to say the ship is damaged, there is no way to dial home cause their is no power, the local people are friendly but are threatened by an enemy no one understands, it is cold and the weather is getting worse and worse with each passing day. So its up to Ronan to hunt, Teyla to learn more about the people and the threat, John to try and save everyone and McKay to fix the whole gate sinking into the ice and jumper not working. Needless to say its an hour packed show thrown into a 275 page book. Very well written and one I would've liked to see on air.

For sure a must read for those SGA fans out there.

My Thoughts:
Okay I get it, I truly understand craving a life more perfect then your own. I mean isn't that what we do every night when we sleep? Or is that just me? Any way this is a great story of a woman coming into her own. Learning to appreciate those she has around her that don't fit her idea of "perfect" and realizing that sometimes what seems "perfect" isn't always true. I did like this quick read. It had the typical do I stay thin, pretty, important, with the perfect boyfriend who FYI isn't good to me OR do I stay chunky, poor, and with the cute guy tattooed up who adores me?! Again can I stress that if I had even one of those choices it would be a step up as of now I have Fred the lizard to keep me company... but I digress.

Grace is a good cookie she does some stupid things in life, she is obsessed with her weight, she always thinks 10 more pounds and I will be pretty enough. She's a little slow when it comes to her family life and those around her b/c she is so focused on her and her "dream man". Until one day she finally gets the dream life and realizes that her regular old life is just as good if not better. But the question is can she get it back.

Its a cute, fun read with a good moral. I highly recommend it for anyone who has ever been there. For sure a book I would tell a friend about.

Sea of Trees by Robert James Russell

I was surprised at my reaction to this book. I am not sure what my expectations were going in, but coming out I was shocked at how much it haunted me. I had a few minor issues with this book and I have to admit I still don’t quite understand ending (no spoilers I promise). That being said this book does stick with you. The writing alone is beautifully haunting in its description that is until Bill the American speaks. Then he just sounds downright immature whose only focus is himself and his needs.  

During the book we learn of different people that have come to Aokigahara Forest to end their lives and why.  We also learn that Junko’s sister Izumi was one of those people. From my experience and background I figured out pretty early on why Izumi killed herself, but I can see where it was a mystery to others.   The forest is beautifully described and each suicide was written in such a way I connect to most of the people. It drove me to understand why they would go forth with ending their lives.

The best part was learning about a different culture. Too many times when I read books like this I tend to see it in an American setting with only Americans. This time not only did I feel as if I was in Japan, but I understood a little more about their culture. I wish Bill would have helped with that as an American visiting, but most of the imagery came from the writing itself and the suicide notes.  Again it is a good book a little heavy, but one that will make you sit back and think. I enjoyed it and would like to see more from this author.

6 Bullets Mini Review

 

For those of you who missed it I did a #6bulletslivetweet on 9/11/12 as I watched the movie live… ignore that statement and let’s move on to the review. Please read at your own risk. I am pretty sure there are no spoilers but just in case don't get mad I did try to keep it spoiler free for everyone but, if one slipped in I'm sorry.

I love the fact that this movie sheds light onto the REALissue of human trafficking and how dangerous it is for anyone.

I like how they show the girls and how expendable they are in this business. I think in America we have our eyes shut to what these girls go through.

I also appreciated the fact that they showed when “cowboys” go rushing in to save a girl or boy what risk they pose to the other children and women trapped there. It also showed that when a raid occurs that the girls may not make it out alive. This is happening people and not everyone survives. So showing it in a way that drives the point home was handled very nicely.

Also I love how they showed the police as someone who wants to help but, can’t due to hands being tied, bribed officials, and rats in the department.

 

I LOVED JCVD he was absolutely amazing but then again I have always loved him. His action scenes were believable, fast moving, and well shit looked like something I could do with years of training. He did only do 1 or 2 (tops) kicks which was sad b/c that was what he is known for. Also they did have him shirtless and well he’s not bad looking just you know old.

It was sad to see him in readers though b/c that means that I am getting old (CRAP)

Now the young JCVD (AKA his son in real life) that is a pretty man… just saying. This has nothing to do with this review I just wanted to add that tidbit. Oh and his acting wasn’t bad he really didn’t have any action scenes kind of just one where he shot a guy but, that was about it.

Didn’t like

 

I didn’t like how they betrayed Joe. And yes that wasn’t a grammar error they betrayed my vision of Joe by making him appear weak and well not what I expected. When one watches Joe in pretty much everything else *coughSGAcough* one thinks of Joe as a bad ass take no prisoners kind of guy. He is a Lt. Col. for freak sakes. He knows how to hold a weapon and fire it. Shit he could plan an assault and he took out all of the Genii when they attacked Atlantis. SO why the FRAK is he a MMA fighter that has never held a gun whose woman shows him up in this movie? I don’t understand it? If you don’t know how to hold a pistol then how can you hold a semi-auto and fire it just fine (B/C YOUR JOHN FREAKING SHEPPERD act like it) Now that I’ve said all that this is not a reflection on Joe he is the SOLE reason I bought and watched this film. I think he is a fantastic actor I LOVE HIM I just think the writers were crap on this movie and made him a minor character b/c this movie was for JCVD’s big return after all. And no one can upstage the might JCVD which Joe would have if he had the chance.

Other things I didn’t like were the wife and daughter acting. It felt at times the wife was overkill to turn around and be under kill. First she was like my poor baby slap JCVD for letting her go then she was like grabbing a guy by the balls to find her and willing to trade another girl for her… Again it’s a writing issue. As far as the daughter I’m going with she is young and the writers didn’t really care about her. But, man she wasn’t nearly as believable at being scared as the girl in Taken was. I just wanted to throw that side note out there.

Final Thoughts

All in all not a bad movie… would I recommend it? Sure it has great action lots of blowing things up, shooting people, stabbing them and of course we have blood and JCVD kicking butt. It has a decent plot and an important one showing more the family and girls’ side of being taken. I think it looked at taken and thought how can I show the other side b/c I saw a lot of things that Taken did better but, then again this time I felt for the girls that had been captured and were stuck in this industry. I would’ve like more action from Joe but I recognize that he was just a father who lost his daughter he didn’t have a special skill set like the dad in taken did hence why he had to use the butcher to help him. Needless to say I hope it opens people’s eyes to the issue of human trafficking out there and makes them more aware of the seriousness of this horrible crime.

Final grade B

 

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

So I watched this movie today and I have to say I wasn't nearly as disappointed as I thought I would be. Considering any movie with Nick Cage in it recently has SUCKED to high heaven. This one was actually cute and an overall good story that I enjoyed. I even think Nick's hair worked for him in this movie it made him very wizard like aw well the love story was an added geek gets the hawt girl and I happen to like those stories the best. Then again it could all be because I'm on a Harry Dresdan kick and well I think Nick Cage reads those books or the writers of the movie did b/c I swear he dresses like Harry Dresdan should with the long black cape/coat...

Final Grade: B

I have a gut feeling that a sequal will be coming and since this one wasn't so bad I might actually try to catch the next one in the theater. Have you seen it? What did you think?

Monday Movie

 Yeah it's Movie Monday again and since I haven't done it in a while I need to cram 2 movies in one so next week I can discuss SCREAM 4 baby!

First up is Fireproof:

I watched this movie after reading the book when I noticed my mother had the DVD there. I have to admit the acting wasn't the best but the movie had an excellent point. Yes it is a Christian movie but it had an element to it I wasn't expecting. That element was forgiveness. The fireproof movie is about a couple getting ready to file for Divorce she thinks that he doesn't listen and he thinks she doesn't respect him. When he tells his parents his dad gives him the love dare. Over the course of 40 days he does all the dares to show her and himself the change.

The ending is truly beautiful and magical but I won't rob you of it. Honestly its the journey that Caleb has to make that is hard to sallow and yet is the most wonderful part. All in all I enjoyed it I will admit I skipped the parts that dealt with Caleb's job as a fire-fighter mainly b/c it doesn't do anything for me. I would suggest this and the Love Dare to any couple.

Final Rating: B

Next up we have a lovely cartoon called Tangled! It is the tell of Rapunzel and well I'm sure you have all heard of it. What you didn't know is that Rapunzel had a man named Flynn Rider who is a thief that just happens to come across Rapunzel's tower only to be knocked out with a frying pan. I must admit this story took me by surprise on how much I enjoyed it. The bad witch to me wasn't all that bad and while I knew what she wanted I still felt like she like Rapunzel and wasn't trying to hurt her other than to keep her. It's weird and complicated suffice to say I enjoyed it.

I honestly laughed, cried, laughed and well cried. It is a super sweet, cute, and fun family movie and I would highly recommend it to anyone with kids or if you're like me you will enjoy the wit and plot. Best parts were the the horse and surprisingly the songs which I don't normally like but this time I did.

Final Rating: A

Movie Monday

Okay so as you may or may not recall last week or so I was watching 3 teenagers while their parents went on a lovely cruise to the warm area known as Mexico. Meanwhile I was stuck in Kansas with our last minute snow and ice storm. Lovely no? So there I was stuck in Kansas with snow and ice and 3 bored beyond belief teenagers with no school. What was a girl to do? Well I hosted a Zombie Movie Marathon I did b/c hey none of them had ever seen the Resident Evil movies. So thus began our introduction to the wonderful world of Alice and well Resdient Evil.

First up was the first movie (duh!) and still to this day my favorite of the Resident Evil movies. This movie introduces us to the umbrella corporation in raccoon city which is an underground city. In the opening sequence we see a bustling city and someone breaking a container. In the next few minutes the city goes haywire and everyone there is killed. Flash forward to the lovely Milla Jovoich naked in the shower unsure of how she got there or where there is. From there we have secret police with Michelle Rodriguez involved, we have two people with memory losses and of course we have to go into the Raccoon City to figure out just what in the hell happened down there. Insert creepy music.

In the mist of all of this I had to explain to the lovely people watching that no it was not zombies yet b/c to have zombies one must have dead people, which by this point we do. But, one must also bring back said dead people in order to get some serious zombie action happening. And when one kills the homicidal computer who speaks with a British accent that is keeping all the dead people dead well you can figure out that they will come back. Which they did in droves. 

Now those of you who haven't seen a zombie movie can figure out where this leads I hope but just in case you have to know that Michelle Rodriquez is in the movie and when she is in a movie she always dies so those in favor of this messed up actress I'm sorry but everyone knows that she has 2 things going against her. First she is a minority no minorities ever live through a zombie/horror movie (hence the black guy was the first to go) Second she is Michelle Rodriquez and well she never makes it through any movie alive... just saying. Okay so the only people to make it out is one Milla HELLO SHE'S LIKE IN EVERY MOVIE AFTER THIS ONE YOU CAN TELL THAT BY THE POSTERS and 2 well I'll leave that as a surprise. It does tie into crappy movie 2.

So my rating: B not the best but still the best of this series

Alright movie number dos or 2 for those of you who can't read Spanish... This was by far my least favorite movie it made no blooming sense and has no true value to the whole arc of a story line they have going other than Umbrella being the stupid corporation they were sent in a science team at the end of movie one and well unleashed the virus to the surface. So now we have Milla AKA Alice waking up in a hospital and stepping outside only to see a city in disaster because the dead have starting coming back. Alice meets up with some rag tag group a black guy (whom has already been bitten) a rough around the edges trying to be the next Alice chick whom I dislike with a passion and hoped beyond hoped she would be bitten, and a Asian news reporter (again don't get attached she dies). They are trying to get out of the city when a British man offers them the way out if and only if they will find his daughter and rescue her. 

So they agree only to meet up with the sexy Oded Fehr HOLY CRAP totally worth it to watch whew he's SWAT baby which means big gun. Anywho his team was trapped AKA left behind by the company when he tried to help a woman. So he is also contacted by said British man. But the corporation knows what's going on and has purposely set them all up b/c they want Alice to meet Nemesis (important b/c this is the survivor of movie 1 people keep up) Okay so during this time we also hook up with funny man Mike Epps and even though he is black he does make it to round 3. Alright so Alice and Nemesis go after it but to know the ending one must watch it I refuse to give away the winner. However, if you are smart you have already figured it out.

The crew manages to escape with little girl in tow no British guy though so be aware only to crash land the plane and Alice is captured. Next time we see her she is in a bubble and naked (come on its Milla of course she has to be naked!!!) Anywho once the bubble breaks we have a daring rescue involving none other than Oded WHEW!!!!

Rating: D there is really no point to this movie other than Oded so yeah not a favorite.

And we have moved on to movie 3 which will pysch you out at first b/c Alice wakes up in the shower again and you start wondering WTH?!?!?! Then you realize that she is dying in the hospital and her body is being dumped in a pile of Alices' which was a little strange. Then the explaination comes the virus has spread around the world PEPS yep watch out the zombies are everywhere. And those few humans alive well their just mean or well Milla kills them as she does with a Whiskey Tango bunch that tries to rape her. Needless to say I could've told ya that wasn't going to work out in your favor but hey we all must learn the hard way no?

This movie is scattered Alice is a loner and hooks up with Oded and Ali Larter (HEROES people Heroes) anywho hooks up wiht her character to help a rag tag bunch of humans trying to live. Mike is still alive but have no fear those of you who know of the minority game in horror movies neither he nor Oded (God rest his soul) live through this movie *headdesk* COME ON HOLLYWOOD Its ok for someone who isn't white to live through horror I promise!!!! Anyway its a trap Umbrella is trying to find Alice and knows where she is heading so Alice knocks on their door. The computers tells Alice she is the key for refusing the curse but she must defeat the evil doctor who kidnapped her in the last 2 movies and has injected himself with the virus in order to do so.

Fast forward and you figured out the winner b/c low and behold there is a 4th movie. The catch we discover that there is a GILLIZION Alices in bubbles and she decides to bring them all back to life watch out now!!!

Rating: B I did enjoy this one I Hated what happened to the men but I did like Ali's character and I liked the action go 3rd movie!!

Alright we have reached the final Resident Evil movie and the only one I hadn't seen before which was nice. This one had a few OH CRAP moments and a few duck your head but mainly b/c it was 3D no the kiddies and I didn't watch it that way but it still had some pop out and scare you moments. This one starts off with Alice and her clones attacking all of the underground cities. In the last city she is given the virus cure and becomes human again. Then she heads to Alaska where she left the last group of kids she rescued AKA Ali's group to see what happened to them.

Only to end up in LA in a  prison with people who hid out there hoping to find the place Ali took the kids too. Turns out it is a boat and now that the plane won't go again its up to Alice to get all the people to the safety of the boat. Problem they have a prisoner who is Wentworth Miller who is fine y'all just saying and second problem they are surrounded by MILLIONS of zombies and one pissed of mutated freak of a zombie. Add to it the zombies are getting smarter like 28 days later zombies so they are grouping together and digging through sewer to get food ect. Fast forward to fighting zombies a freaky shower scene and well you get to where the only ones alive are Milla, Ali and Wentworth on the boat to find out it is an umbrella corporation boat looking for victims to test on and the bad guy in the beginning is back and nasty might I add.

The ending had a twist which means another movie is on the way.

Final grade: C I wasn't impressed but I did flinch and scream at parts. I will watch the next one but won't pay money for it.

Movie Monday

 Whew I'm a little late today but better late than never. Today's movie review is:

I'm not sure how many of you have seen this movie but WOW I heart it and not just b/c of Leo. Although I do love me some Leo. No the reason I loved this movie is the suspense, the action of figuring out who done it, and the simple fact it was a mind bender. I seriously was staring at the TV going huh I didn't realize that. And at the end oh Lord at the end I felt stupid. So stupid I had to go back and re-watch the damn thing to help me make sense of it. But, I'm the werido who loves movies that make you do that. The cast was good and it took a few to figure out who everyone was but I finally got it.

 I honestly would love to summarize this story but I am afraid that I will give something away so instead I will let IMBD do it for me: Drama set in 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island. And yet this summary doesn't do it justice seriously if you get a chance to watch a movie that has a wonderful cast and if you enjoy thrillers/movies that make you think then I highly recommend this movie.

Okay final rating: B while it was good the second time through it lost its appeal since I knew the ending.

Movie Monday

So I've managed to watched only 3 movies since my last review which is kind of sad when you think about it.

 So the first movie I watched was Jackass 3D and no it was not my choice I was suckered into by a friend. Said friend who just HAD to see it and knew I would say no if I knew where we were going before she bought the tickets. That being said I have never laughed so hard or came so close to puking in a movie theater before this movie but my God it was freakin funny as all get out and WOW gross. The best part for me was Jared Allen who is an ex Chief's player he tackled Johnny Knoxville freaking lost my mind with this scene.

The things these guys do for laughs is amazing in fact the fact that they have been able to reproduce is even more amazing after what they put their bodies through. If you are going to see this movie I would suggest you not eat during, before or after for a while because if you are not laughing you are gagging.

Final Rating B

Next up is the movie that my mom has been wanting to see but it finally came out and she was able to see it. Red is a great movie and by far one of my favorites of this batch. I absolutely loved watching Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirrin and Bruce Willis with Jon Malkovich acting like washed up CIA agents. The plot was good and believable and can I just say that Karl Urban is FREAKIN HAWT I don't care who you are that man whew!!! He will be our Eye Candy Friday real soon I swear.

Okay so basically Bruce Willis character falls in love with the woman on the phone who happens to live in Kansas City BABY! But someone orders all ex CIA agents to be killed that happened to deal with a plan in South America. So they all get together to figure out why people are trying to kill them. There is a lot of action, there is some romance, some wonderful plot developments and well of course watching Helen Mirrin firing a machine gun kicked some serious butt.

Final Rating: A (I will be buying this one on DVD)

Okay I have to say this was the biggest disapointment of all of them. I thought this would be like the original happy and a little sad but still filled with laughing. UH no I ended up balling my freakin eyes out through the whole movie. The comedy that was in it wasn't enough the rest of the time I ended up wondering why I was watching a kid movie to cry.

Basically Andy is going to college and well the toys get sent to daycare by accident only to discover that being played with ALL the time isn't the best thing in the world. So needless to say its Toys break out while Buzz turns Spanish and while that was cute it wasn't enough to lighten the seriousness of the movie. Lord help me but I just didn't care for it.

Final rating: C

Push

Ok so contray to what most reviewers of this movie have said I actually liked it. It took me awhile to get into it but I really liked the idea of it and how it was done all things considered. There are not a lot of special effects but then again when they do use them they are done right. Did you know that most of the movie was done with a hand held? No big tripod like things... Anyway the premise behind Push:

There are special people born with special talents (ex: ability to move things with their mind, see into the future, plant thoughts, heal bones, and well numerous other things) these people were experiements during WWII (nice touch if you ask me) they then gave birth to children who carried on the genes. Anyway the world's governments have locked them up in hopes of building up SUPER armies (sounds about right) The few that are not in holding or working for the agency are the ones deemed not good enough. Enter in our main character played by My Chris (he shall hereforth be named such)

Anyway My Chris is found by little Dakota who can see into the future and knows that My Chris should help her find the case which is the key to taking down the Agency. Mix in the fact that it involves the man who killed My Chris' dad in the beginning a woman that he fell in love with and some other really cool people and you've got one hell of a movie.

Here are some of the characters in the movie. Dakota reads the future, the other girl is a sniffer she can smell an object and see its whole past. The Man on the left can change objects to make them look like other objects and the other man can hide things from said sniffers.

Apparently My Chris can only use his powers when he is emotional b/c honestly through most of the movie he sucked at it unless his girl was in danger or something bad was happening. But boy help us when he was able to use his wonderful gifts.

Would I recommend this movie? Yeah if you want a different take on talents and to see what they might look like.

Lesson Learned: Don't take on the Agency unless you know you can win b/c those people are MESSED up.

Sunshine

Sunshine was one of those movies that I just wasn't sure if I would like or not. Turns out I did like it but for different reasons. First and foremost I LOVED the basic plot of the whole movie. In the future our sun will eventually die out. Not good for those people still on Earth.

So what does Earth decide to do but send up a team of professionals to set off a nuclear warhead in hope of restarting the sun. See good plot. It shows how too much time in space is making them all go a little crazy especially when they enter the dead zone. Add to it that it takes YEARS to make this trip which is a lot to ask from just 7 people.

I like that its a tru Sci/Fi film in the sense that they crew is stick in space with limited things to do. They have to produce their own food and of course find ways to make oxygen.

I also love that they showed some of the things that can go wrong and how they would really effect the crew. Like the fact that a fire could destroy the whole mission and in fact it does simply b/c it burns up the oxygen room. So now the crew knows they have no more oxygen and they won't be returning home.

Things go from bad to worse when they discover the first missions ship left with all the crew aboard dead. And now we hae to decided how they died and if they should even stop to see what happened. Only to discover that it was self sabotage. DUM DUM DUM... and here is where it actually gets DUMB

When they make it back they are crew memebers short one by one they all die in a weird fashion. The worst part of the movie is now. Somehow they went all horror filmish on me. It was weird and I won't ruin for you but yeah not my favorite and really I think the movie would've been great without it!

So over all I give the movie a B rating and really the only lesson I learned was not to stare directly at the sun....

Prince of Persia

Okay so I went into this movie with some reservations. Mainly b/c I love the game and I wondered how this would translate into a movie. That being said I will make this one comment if you do not own a BIG screen TV (which I don't) or you do not own BLUERAY you may want to check this movie out at the theater. It is definately one for the BIG SCREEN. The special effects are fantastic and I have to say the storyline wasn't all that bad.

There was of course a few moments when I rolled my eyes, there were a few moments when I laughed and there were a few moments when I wanted to scream in fear (snakes that's all I'm saying) but all in all I would suggestion this movie. It is a summer flick, basically the King of Persia finds a street boy and decides to raise him as his son (enter Jake) once grown the King's eldest decides to raid a Holy city. The brothers agree and insanity ensues. Jake runs across a dagger that can reverse time and so there is a race against time to discover who is trying to steal the dagger and why (you will figure it out pretty quickly) and if the dagger should be hidden or not.

There are some good lessons in this movie one being about family while others are just about general character and morals. I did enjoy it and I do recommend it but it wasn't my favorite by far.

Lesson Learned: Don't touch shit that shouldn't be touched unless you want to end up saving the world.
